Parts of Speech: Interjections

An interjection is a word that is used to express emotion or feeling, and functions separately from the sentence. For example:

Aha! I solved the mystery.

I knew that was the answer. Awesome!

She said that, alas, we have no mystery.

Punctuation is important when it comes to using interjections. Because interjections are independent from sentences, they must either be set off with an exclamation mark or commas.

It should also note that any other part of speech can be used as an interjection. For example:

Noun: Germany! I’ve always wanted to go there

Verb: Walk! You want me to walk in the rain?
