Story Search

We all know how to perform a simple story search, but there are more options than just typing in some keywords and hoping for the best. Here are some ways to focus your search so you find the stories you’re looking for:

Advanced Search

Clicking the plus sign next to the story search box brings you to the advanced search page, which allows you to restrict your search by type, genres, rating, number of chapters, word count, language, or whether or not the story is completed.

So if I want to read an original war-themed one-shot, I would check off “Original fiction”, “War”, and number of chapters: 1 to 1. By leaving the rest of the fields blank, my search won’t be restricted any further.

Search by title or tags

Some users may remember the story search on Old Mibba allowing you to search by tags or by title. This feature isn’t gone in New Mibba, just hidden. To search by title, add “@title”. For example, if I search:

I’ll get results for stories with “funny” in the title, but not stories with “funny” in the tags.

The reverse is true for @tags:

This search will bring up stories with “romance” in the tags, but not “romance” in the title.

What about search by author?

You may remember being able to search by author with Old Mibba story search. You can no longer search for an author through the story section, but you can find all of a user’s stories by searching for them in the Members tab:

Then you can go to the stories tab on their user info page.

Other ways to narrow your search

There are two other ways to narrow your search: quotation marks and the minus sign.

By putting quotation marks around your search, you tell the search engine you want the words to be in that order. For example, look at the difference between these searches:

The final way to narrow your search is with the minus sign. The minus sign is a symbol for “NOT”, meaning that you want stories with the words before the minus sign, but not words after the minus sign.

For example: getting frustrated searching for slash and finding stories tagged “not slash”? Search “slash -not” to find stories that are tagged just “slash” and not “not slash”.
