Keep Your Story "Safe" From Editors - Comments

  • This kind of annoys me to be perfectly honest. I mean, I'm all for improving people's writing and all that. But now we are having our stories checked for things paragraph formatting? I, myself am pretty judgemental on things like basic grammar and spelling, but what happened to writing being just for fun? Not all people that like writing are English geniuses. I know that I'm not and will be the first to admit that! So this kind of worries me. I mean it's an improvement to see something actually being done about stories being reported and general improvements, but at this rate I'm pretty much screwed.

  • Are editors going to use their discretion in this area to decide whether or not the author intended to make these "mistakes"?

Yes. It's often easy to tell the stylistic choices from careless mistakes. And if members feel their story is reported for a stylistic choice misinterpreted as an error, they can contact and talk it through with a story editor.

  • I have the same thoughts as Julie Black. You can't claim to promote writing but only let those who write how you think they should keep their stories.

  • The way I write my stories is how I was taught in school... if they don't meet with these rules does that mean you'll remove everything I have written?

I don't mind having my stories looked over... and think its a great idea to stop people from stealing other people's stories xx

  • I have one shots all in one story called "Requsted One Shots". So I have to delete that and put them all in separat stories and try to get the readers and comments back? haha NO!!

  • I am a little curious about how writing style can conflict with the grammar/punctuation rules. I know some people like to use the "stream of consciousness" style of writing, that generally omits some punctuation and uses a lot of what are generally accepted as "run-on" sentences. Authors like Cormac McCarthy have become known for this style of writing. Are editors going to use their discretion in this area to decide whether or not the author intended to make these "mistakes," or is this style simple not going to be allowed?

  • So, you can put pictures in the story if they are absolutely necessary? I liked the examples that you gave for this, but could you give me more? I just want to be perfectly clear on this. What are some more examples of things that are considered to be okay as far as putting pictures in stories goes?

Another thing, are we allowed to make banners for our stories (you know, those pictures at the top of every chapter in the story)? I've seen alot (is it "alot" or "a lot", by the way?) of those on this site, so I just wanted to make sure.

  • This is really good... if only this applied to every other website... haha. :)

  • Again, thank you for this. I mean, I live in the perpetual fear of having some thing wrong with my stories but now that you've put this up - I understand better. Thanks!!

  • About time. It got annoying to see the report sign and then have nothing done.

  • I too am glad to see that reported stories will actually have something done about them now. :) Hopefully this will help users improve with things like grammar and proper paragraphing, etc.

Though, I am curious as to how *Karen would be allowed as a title, and how it would be related to the plot? Just a quick PM for an answer would be fine :)

  • (:
I'm really glad that now if you steal someone's story you get your story taken down and banned from the site. I had a story stolen and at the time would've liked for the girl to be "thrown off" Mibba. So that's nice change.

  • Not to offend, but no one in this entire universe, has perfect grammar.
It is something we all can work on, but no one really does have perfect grammar, well anymore.
I miss coma's like no tomorrow.
My spelling and other small things is mediocre.
O.o and why would someone write about raping babies?
    That's horrible.
(there are sick people in this universe.)
