Mibba's Thoughts: Suicide

Most people either know someone who has thought about suicide, completed suicide, or has thought about it themselves. Suicide is one of those topics that seems to fly under the radar in most things, but some Mibbians have taken to talking about it in the forums.

In this week's edition of Mibba's Thoughts, Mibbians discuss their thoughts on suicide.

What gets to me about suicide is that there are so many people out there dying of incurable diseases like cancer and MND; people as young 2 and as old as 80, and they want to live. I see young people, younger than me - teenagers, throwing their precious lives away and it just makes me angry.

I wish there were no reasons to commit suicide.

I think suicide is just a part of life. It happens - all the time, every day, probably right now someone is killing themselves. Do I think it's acceptable? That's debatable. I don't think that there is a right or wrong when it comes to suicide because people have different perspectives on it. Life is difficult and who am I to tell someone that 'it's all going to get better' and that 'there's always someone there'. Those are nice sentiments but they’re not clearly heard to a tormented mind.

I was reading statistics on bullying and suicide yesterday among young people. It's pretty sick that our government has a chance to help prevent the third leading cause of death among young people by enforcing no tolerance bullying programs in our schools and they aren't. I think that at some point, we'll have to start suing schools who don't prevent bullying for negligent homicide. Their negligence is killing young people.

when I was in England, a teenage boy jumped in front of the train we were riding back to the hotel and died. everybody was making jokes and complaining about how annoying it was that we'd be stuck there for a while. all I could think was how they needed to clean his body off the tracks. he wasn't a person with a body anymore. his parents were on their way down to find out they'd never see him again.

I've been suicidal in varying degrees of severity before, failing twice- but never thought of it so realistically as I did then.
