Mibba's Thoughts: Scientific Advances

Science has made many great advancements since the beginning of time, and there is no limit to what science can accomplish in the future. From a cure to cancer to teleporting, there are many advancements that people would love to see.

In this week's edition of Mibba's Thoughts, Mibbians discuss the scientific advances they'd like to see in their lifetimes.

The ability to travel at the speed of light. Even though I know that would take all of the energy on the planet and by the time we got back from wherever we were going, no one we knew or loved would be alive anymore, and the new scientists would be like, 'Who are you lols?'

Cancer research advancements would also be a wonderful one; they're getting closer to some cures for some cancers, and prevention methods, but I think it'll take another chunk of money and a good few decades before we start to eradicate cancers completely. Hopefully I'll be alive to witness it!

Hologram television and visual mobile phones. Things like the Google Glass concept: some sort of over-the-head visual display, voice activated perhaps, high-speed internet connection, maybe even a Play Store for apps and extensions. I could finally live my dream of walking around looking like a robot.

Economical space travel.

I'm talking people who want to go to space, average people. Even though the whole process barely lasts three minutes, it would be the best three minutes of your life. I imagine you'd float around in the shuttle for a bit, or maybe dock at the station, then it's back down to Earth again. But they would have to find a way to make it much cheaper, find a better fuel source. Because right now, as it is, it costs so many thousands of dollars per pound of weight to get things up through the atmosphere.

Wouldn't that just be fantastic, though?

A better understanding of currently unknown/foreign illness and disease.

I watched a television show the other day that featured a 13-year-old boy who suffered constant abdominal pains. There were points where he couldn't eat; his body would reject the food. He weighed a total of 87 lbs, or something equally ridiculous. The young boy had been to over 20 different specialists and nobody had the answers.

With the introduction and advancement of genetically engineered foods, more pollutants, new vaccines, new antibiotics - all of which humans were not exposed to in the past - I think there should be more long-term experimentation and research conducted towards finding causes of "mystery" diseases and disorders.

Also, I think it would be cool if we could figure out living systems.

Just basic things.
