Member Spotlight: Lyra

Lyra is a sweet girl who is extremely young at heart. Her biggest passions are reading, writing, music and movies, and her wide variety of interests make her easy to get along with.

Lyra According to Lyra

I'm not a very interesting person. I see myself as an eternal teenager, I'm a 16 year old girl stuck in the body of a mid-twenties woman. I've been an avid reader since I can remember, and I always had a book stuck in my hands when I wasn't in school. The only other passions of mine are music (listening, that is), movies and writing. Basically, I enjoy any hobbies/interest that takes up little physical effort, but allows me to think or be creative.

Mibba According to Lyra

Well, I've been writing for years. I first started writing at the age of fifteen or so, which was mainly Harry Potter fiction on another site. I gave it up after a while, due to lack of time and feeling as though I wasn't really any good. Then, I came across Mibba. The fact that it was such a community, where people who love writing and creativity could come together to post their works for others to view and give feedback was amazing, and something that's rarely seen on other sites. I've been on Mibba for years as a reader, particularly My Chemical Romance fan fiction, but I also read a lot of original fiction too. But it's only since last year that I began publishing my work. That was a scary thing for me to do, and I remember how anxious I was. The fear that people wouldn't like my work, that I would get nothing but criticism, was overwhelming. I posted anyway, and it started from there.

The thing I love most about Mibba is how open and accepting it is. While I'm a browser on the forums, rather than a participant, I see them as a place for lively discussions in a safe environment. I also see Mibba as a place for people to be themselves, and reach out to others. I try to be active more on the writing side of things, by giving feedback when I can on stories, rather than on the forums. I feel that feedback has gone down somewhat lately, and it's important to remember that while it may take you five minutes to read an update, it's taken the author longer to write it, and all it takes it a couple of seconds to write a simple 'good chapter'. I've made it a resolution to become more active on the forums though, as it's such an amazing part of Mibba.

Friends According to Lyra

I've made some amazing friends on this site.

pixiewayro is the first I'd have to mention; she beta's for me and always gives me encouragement. She's also an amazing writer, and a genuinely good friend. Indigo Umbrella was the first writer in this site I followed, and just from reading her stuff alone she gave me the desire to post my stuff, and seeing how she interacts with her readers is amazing. It inspires me to also respond to any commenters on my stories, to let them know they're appreciated.

BeAZombieLikeMe deserves a good mention too, for being one of those amazing readers who gives brilliant feedback. Readers like her make writers want to write.

nailsntacks is another friend I made on this site. She reaches out to people, or at least to me, and it's mibbians like her that make me love being a part of this community.

Special thanks to sheepcat; and Norman Reedus for editing!
