Fandom Spotlight: Green Day

There are few bands that can boast of an almost thirty year career that spans many albums and has created a music style recognised by many around the world. Green Day are one of the few bands that can. Formed in 1986, Green Day have been a strong force in the music industry since they started out, gaining themselves a legion of extremely loyal fans through their slapstick style of punk rock. The love that fans have for the music can be felt all around the world, including right here on Mibba! With literally hundreds of pages of fanfiction stories posted, Green Day fans have a wealth of choice when it comes to reading right here!

The Music

Green Day have made a name for themselves in music due to their very distinctive style. Vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong has an instantly recognisable voice that fits in perfectly with their raw, no-nonsense style of punk rock. For fans of raw music, their first few albums are a definite when it comes to listening. Their first real breakthrough into the commercial music scene came with the release of diamond-certified album, Dookie. Released in 1994, it is still a firm fan favourite with young fans and older fans alike and showcases the sound that many fans fell in love way back when.

The next milestone for Green Day was the release of American Idiot in 2004, which is arguably their biggest commercial success to date. Going straight to number one, the album was a hit as it charted in 27 countries (including a number one spot in the U.S charts), eventually inspiring a broadway show of the same name. A concept album, American Idiot featured a sound that was slightly more polished and straight-up rock than previous albums had. This sound has carried on into their more recent albums, with 21st Century Breakdown also garnering a largely positive reception when it was released in 2009.

To date, the band have had 11 recognised studio albums, with the most recent being a trio of albums released shortly after one another — ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre! — as well as a strong worldwide following. Rumours currently state that the band is working on a twelfth album, which is something for fans across the globe to get excited about!

Green Day on Mibba

Although the activity seems to wax and wane depending on fandom activity, there are a few things that Green Day fans can do to get involved in the fandom on Mibba.
