Writing With: aliens.

Rylee is a great fan fiction writer, mainly focusing on stories set in the Homestuck universe. She’s here to give us more insight to her stories Trouble and Blind Sadness.

Trouble

“I had been wanting to do something that related to Homestuck and all of its characters while still dealing with their home planet, Alternia. I'd had something planned out, but it didn't work out. Honestly, I thought of this story on a whim, and then spent the next week planning it, and three days writing it."

Trouble is a story that focuses on Karkat Vantas and the conflicts he has to face. He is forced to do his job for the Empress and capture his best friend, no matter how much his emotions tell him otherwise.

When asked about her favourite part of writing the story, Rylee stated, “How much I've had to think. This is so different from anything I've ever written, and I have to get an entire world explained without overdoing it or overwhelming the reader. At the same time, I'm also loving how I'm fleshing out these characters. All of them are going to be tested in one way or another, and I'm excited to go through those tests with them!”

As for the future plans for this story, “Due to the length of each chapter, I can only see about five to ten altogether, but there will be a lot of action, character development, love, hate, etc. I'd love to receive constructive criticism for it, though. I'd like to know the positives and negatives of the story.”

Blind Sadness

“Honestly, I came up with this story quickly, however ever since writing it, I've found that I love it. Unrequited love (or an unrequited crush) can really damage a person and I provided someone's inner thoughts, someone that thought themselves to be strong up until they saw the person they loved kissing someone else. I feel like it's realistic in a way.”

Blind Sadness is a story of unrequited love and all the emotions a person with a crush that is not returned feels. To add an extra layer to the plot, the main character is blind, which makes the described emotions much more impactful.

Rylee’s favourite character is 'Toph Beifong, for sure! She's the main character. She puts on this brave face where she forces everything to roll off of her, but everyone has a breaking point, including the strongest of characters'.

Because this story is a one-shot, Rylee says, “I don't have anything else planned for the plot, unless I decide to continue it. However, I think it packs enough of a punch as a one-shot. I would like to see people's take on it though, feedback wise.”

When asked about her writing habits, Rylee stated that she doesn’t really have any 'other than the fact that I have to have music that relates to my story, or complete and utter silence. I always have to have Mibba, Ao3, and Tumblr open as well for frequent breaks'.

Rylee describes herself as an "opinionated, contest-junkie, fanficton writer". In her 6 years on the site, she’s developed a love for "the contests! I love looking through all of the brilliant contests people make, joining them, and then crying at how many I've joined. I have a bit of a contest problem, but it's hard not to have that kind of a problem on here".
