Fixing Red

WelcomeToMyWorld’s Fixing Red is a refreshing original fiction that incorporates the themes of death, romance and drama. Capturing adolescence perfectly, it’s a rare gem of a story that has yet to receive the attention it is rightly due.

Title: Fixing Red
Author: WelcomeToMyWorld
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Drama, Romance
Rating: NC-17

Darcy Owens is struggling to cope with her twin brother’s suicide. A young girl tottering on the edge of adolescence, she’s learning to stand on her own two feet – but this is proving to be increasingly difficult with all of the added pressure of her deceased sibling, Jake. At a time like this, the last thing on Darcy’s mind is romance – however, meeting the elusive Noah soon changes her mind.

As the title suggests, the other characters in the story are intent on “fixing” Darcy (aka Red), allowing us to watch her progress throughout the course of the story. The primary characters in the story are: Ella, a long-term best friend of Darcy; Ella’s boyfriend Mo, whom Darcy also knows as being Jake’s best friend; and Noah, whom Darcy begins dating through a series of seemingly accidental, yet fated meetings.

As disconnected from the world as Darcy is (and has been since the loss of Jake), her friends vow never to desert her.

With haunting lines, such as: “Jake’s gone sweetie… but we’re all still here” and “That night, Jake was scared and Darcy knew. When Jake died, she didn’t know how scared he was,” this story will leave an impression upon you long after you’ve finished reading. It has that perfect dose of reality that many of the stories written by amateur authors lack.

It is immediately evident that the plot and characterisation of this story have been very carefully considered, and as a reader, this is something that I value in a story immensely. Although the story hasn’t yet been completed, with regular updates and notes from the author, an eventual ending is a promising prospect.

You’ll be glad that you stumbled upon this genuinely heartwarming story. Personally, I would give it four out of five stars.
