To Keep a Secret is what most would call a ‘dramatic romance’ but the truth is; it’s much more than that.

This story initially introduces us to quite a peculiar girl named Emelia who has a secret to keep; a boy. You might think, how much of a secret can a boy be? but in her case, it could mean her whole life.

You see, Emelia is not your regular teenage girl, no; she lives in the confinement of a temple that belongs to a cult. Yes, you read right, a cult.

The Matrons, or so they call themselves, have a sort of disrespect for ‘The English World’; or what we would know as regular life. They tell the girls of the cult to be careful, to watch their backs; that the English boys are there to taunt them. But Emelia simply couldn’t resist herself.

That’s where we meet the next character, Rhode Mathews. This boy isn’t any regular boy either; he’s from the English World. He drops by every so and so night to pick her up and take her away from her fascist reality.

But though Emelia and Rhode seem truly, happily and manically in love; as the story goes on we learn more about Emelia and a whole lot less about Rhode.

This is where the crucial point in the story begins; will Emelia finally succumb to her secret, to her love… or will she simply accept the fate she’s found herself in and resign. Will she follow her beloved secret lover and betray her ‘family’ and fellow cult members or will she give in and say goodbye to a very catching life?

To Keep a Secret has a depth to it that goes beyond a girl loves boy, boy loves girl cliché. It explores social flaws and these two teenager’s worlds colliding. This story is one of the best I’ve read on this website and I completely recommend it to all of you.
