Adelaide hates everything that is about to happen but most of all she hates her new husband and the way he treats her. She knew her mother was right, but she thought he was different, until her wedding night happened and she stared into his eyes and saw lust, along with the clasped, tightened hands.

After reading the summary, I instantly knew I was going to like the story - and I wasn't disappointed. The author does an excellent job of portraying Adelaide's emotions and feelings towards her controlling husband, who in turn is such a sly character that his actions in the story almost make you sick. The story is written with absolutely no dialogue, just all description, which adds beautifully to the story. And you will find yourself so caught up in Adelaide’s desperation right up to the very end. If you have been in a relationship like the one described in the story, you will no doubt be able to relate to it.

All of the colors that have painted his life. All in an oil mess on the wall. Explosive like fireworks on the white stucco. Cadmium yellow. Ivory black.

Raw umber.

All the colors Bill used to recreate life. To bleed his mind onto the thick canvas. They’re vomit on the wall. They’re smashed bugs on a windshield. They’re in Tom’s hands, and on Tom’s hands. And they are airborne. And they die on the wall.

Personally, I know absolutely nothing about the two characters and how they are in real life, but I still managed to get such a sense of character from this story. The author uses very inventive and well-crafted metaphors, particularly the sustained comparison between the colors and the memories, in order to explore the friendship (and more) of the main characters, and how it grows and develops. The description is flowing with an almost lyrical quality and the use of the colors of the paint works very well, tainting the reader's visions of each memory with the connected emotions and how they slowly destroy him.

Alex wishes he wasn't popular. If he wasn't, it wouldn't matter if he was gay, and being in love with Zack wouldn't matter either.

An honestly beautiful short story that wonderfully demonstrates the way high school popularity isn't always what you need. With characters readers can easily relate to, and moments that tug relentlessly on heartstrings, Conventional is a well written, emotive piece that should definitely be read

Gerard Way realizes how easy it is to destroy the thing you love most.

Honestly, for someone who isn't a particular fan of the fandom, this story definitely has a place in my heart. It's chilling, thrilling, and absolutely incredible. It just shows that you can easily hurt the person you love most, to the extent of no possible return, and that you will do anything to save them. By one of, ultimately, Mibba's best and most-loved authors, it's a fantastic piece that shouldn't be missed.
