The Diary of a Drunk Girl

Title: The Diary of a Drunk Girl
Author: ashleeinwonderland
Type: True Story
Genre: Comedy, Drabble, Autobiography
Rating: PG-13

The Diary of a Drunk Girl is literal in title and content. Each chapter is a new story and a new adventure. ashleeinwonderland writes about her nights out with her friends (alcohol always involved) and leaves nothing out—unless, of course, she blacked out- only then do the memories become cloudy. She makes note of that, letting the readers know that she would inform them of more if she really could. Because this story is autobiographical, the characters are real and their actions are real; nothing is fabricated or falsified. That also makes this cast relatable to many people. For those readers who frequent bars and/or clubs and spend nights out with their friends, it is easy to see themselves in these stories. This isn’t a typical “Drunk Girl Problems” story. With merit, it is a story of a group of friends going out and having the time of their lives while they are young.

As a writer, ashleeinwonderland is very literal and honest. This is like a diary, so you will not find eloquent prose, rhythmic wording, or flowery, English fluff. This is like reading an actual diary. It’s very colloquial and comfortable. The text is conversational and it is as if you can hear her voice in your head. The chapters are relatively short. These stories are more of a summation of a night out and not an actual retelling. Their lengths do not affect the quality of the story, though. Rather, it is the length that makes the story what it is: real and relaxed. ashleeinwonderland is entertaining, cheeky, and true to herself. She is not ashamed of her actions, nor does she try to defend herself or her friends. She simply tells her story and eagerly waits for us to read it.

If you can handle the idea of a young girl partying and making somewhat questionable decisions, then you can definitely handle The Diary of a Drunk Girl, and I would highly recommend it.
