I’ve been shot at, I’ve been stabbed. I’ve even been struck by lightning. I’m not dead, therefore, I’m not going anywhere.

Have you ever thought about how most superheroes in comics never die? Of course, each and every one of them has their own weaknesses. We could name a few, like Spiderman and his love for Mary Jane; Superman and kryptonite; Thor and his pride. In Greek mythology, Achilles was so very brave - a soldier you can describe as invincible. Yet when he was struck at the most vulnerable part of his body - his heel - he was rendered useless. In reality, outside the fantasy world of comics and mythology, no one can live forever.

I’d like to introduce to you all Rhett Tallavera: a reckless, clueless man who has escaped death every time it makes an attempt to collect his soul. Rhett has no idea how he is able to survive while the people around him don’t. The first time he encountered a near-to-death experience was when he was thirteen and hit by a car. A little later in life, he and his cousins were on a rooftop during a family occasion and he fell. Even as he fought in a war in England during the 1930’s, he was somehow able to survive.

The Man Who Couldn’t Die is not just about Rhett living, but about him loving as well. Before he fought in the war, he fell in love with the witty and very prideful Holland Duquet. This story revolves around them fighting a battle every day of their life. They both share each other’s happiness, sorrow, and grief as they go through life losing the people they hold dearly - especially during World War II. You will know that reading throughout the story, Rhett is not living for himself anymore but for Holland as well.

Pelican park has created a story that brings love and tragedy together in a beautiful mix that leaves you begging for more. It's a must-read for anyone who enjoys war fiction or just a little romance.
