MM Reviews: Fragility

Title: Fragility
Author: Alexander Bernadotte
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Romance | Thriller | War
Rating: PG-13

"There it was again, that suffocating feeling, like I was trapped under a bell jar and I was screaming my lungs out and nobody bothered to help tip that damn glass jar or hear me. There were those taunts again; truths, they said. Truths about me. They heard the truths and taunts, but didn't stop it. Under the bell jar, I clapped my hands over my ears, shut my eyes, and cried."

Fragility begins with a small snippet of a girl and a boy together, narrated in third person. It serves as a small introduction chapter, drawing the reader in to find out what's going to happen and who the two in the chapter are.

The second chapter then begins in first person, narrating the view of Miss Victory Harrington, a sixteen year old girl who is transferred to a new school by her parents. There she meets two boys, one of whom she feels a familiarity with but can't quite put her finger on it.

As you read her thoughts throughout the chapter, you feel a sense of mystery about Victory with the words that Alexander Bernadotte uses. You don't quite know who she is, just her name, her parents, her new school, and a familiar face whom she knows. There's so much that the reader is clueless about that it heightens the appeal to read further into the story to discover everything there is to know about this girl and her life.

The language used brings the words to life, making you feel as if you can see everything that is going on in the scene, from the sights the character sees to how she's feeling about everything around her. Despite being only three chapters in, Fragility is one of the best stories I have read. It kept me interested, engaged with the characters and genuinely forming opinions on them as if they were real people.

In all, Alexander Bernadotte's writing is truly breathtaking with the amount of detail put in, and that's only going on this one piece.

Special thanks to ElegantFalcon and everybody dies; for editing.
