MM Reviews: Superman

I just wanted to remind you of the story we once had.

Superman was written in a very unique writing style, and features a series of letters written by Zoe. These letters depict times in her life (in the first person) which mainly include the other main character of the story, Lance. Lance had been Zoe’s best friend for a long time, since they were little kids, but as they got older, she comes to realize that she has a crush on him.

Throughout the story, she struggles with the crush she has on him but he never really seems to realize, only thinking of her as a friend. On a rare occasion, he acts more like a boyfriend, giving her hope, and then he seems to ignore her or do something to crush her feelings, which is what spurs on her writing the letters.

This story is one that I personally found riveting. It shows a series of events which many people can relate to, especially since the author based it around a real event in her own life. It shows the pain and struggles that Zoe has gone through, feeding the reader raw emotion from the format in which it was written. It is an original and unique story of the likes I haven’t seen before in reading.

While the chapters are short, she is currently writing a sequel that also keeps readers on edge, called Her Letters, which is a continuation of Zoe’s and Lance’s story and their struggle with trying to find their feelings for each other. Anyway, if you’re a teenage girl who is maybe looking for something sweet, emotional, and different, this is probably your story!
