MM Reviews: Eat

Title: Eat
Author:alyssasaavedra
Rating: PG-13
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Life | Family | Teen

Each and every person has a different physique; one they are either proud of or not. Most of us, boys and girls alike, have difficulty accepting our appearance for what it is. Not everyone is blessed with having a small waist, long legs, or toned arms. And we are often resenting those who do, or searching for ways to either change our real bodies or remove the things that we don’t like about them.

Appearing frail and self-conscious in the first part of Eat, there is definite character progression in the protagonist Kassandra, and your initial impression of her will most likely have changed by the end of the story. She is not your whiny, self-obsessed girl who is quite ashamed of how she looks; she’s so much more. Kassandra, along with her mother, therapist and a special friend try to help her move on from her eating problems and help her live a healthy life. But even with their help it seems as if she couldn't move on from her past.

Although it is just two parts long, Eat is overflowing with ambiguity and secrets that will unravel as you read. Kassandra has an unusual reason for not eating, something that will draw you even deeper into her story. Based on her love for her special friend, you’ll finally realize that there is nothing ordinary about this typical narrative on eating disorders.

Alyssasaavedra has written a completely different perspective about not eating and the reasons why people don’t eat. This is definitely the reason I read until the end. It is based on dreams, love and the purpose of being alive. If you were struck by the title itself, I urge you to click the story’s title button. You are sure to finish the story holding your breath and thirsting for more.
