Book of the Week: Anya's Ghost

When Anya falls down a hidden well, the only thing she expects to find is certain death. Instead she discovers the bones of a young girl killed nearly a century ago and Emily, a young ghost. After spending a frightening day at the bottom of the well, Anya is rescued by a helpful passer-by. Promising to inform local authorities of her withered remains, she leaves Emily and her broken bones behind...or so she thinks.

In the days following, Anya quietly recuperates at home, quickly forgetting the promise she's made to Emily. It isn't until she returns to school a few days later that Emily reappears. In the form of a tiny apparition that appears to Anya during an exam, Emily convinces her that she can help improve her life - helping her cheat on the exam and eventually getting her invited to a party with her crush.

With a small bone attached to a necklace, Emily is able to travel with Anya wherever she goes. For a while, with Emily's help, Anya's able to live the life she's always wanted, no longer feeling like the immigrant outsider. But soon, Emily begins to grow more powerful and moves to take complete control of Anya's life. When Anya resists, Emily's violent outbursts and dangerous scheming leaves Anya shaken and terrified.

With Emily getting more powerful and dangerous every day, it's time for Anya to put her own dreams of being a fully assimilated teenager aside. Now she must stop Emily from hurting her friends and family and put her to rest for once and for all.
