The war is over/ Take another look./ The scars are older,/ Take any story you want.”

Love, loss, hurt, deceit, are all things that people experience and can truly alter someone’s life. Through these emotions and feelings the war with others and the war with oneself can occur.

The poem “Darling, I Told You” captures these different concepts very well. Through each stanza of the poem emphasizes these ideas and does them so well. The diction used in this poem was cleverly selected to depict these ideas to the reader.

The speaker in this poem is fierce, blunt and firey and makes the poem tick and takes in the reader right away. The poem does not hesitate to give you punches and makes things fly at you. It is a really well constructed poem and truly gives off what the author’s intention was.

The title “Darling, I Told You” can almost be misleading because it seems as though the poem would be something sweet and romantic. However, it almost seems as though the title juxtaposes the entire content of the poem which is a wonderful concept.

The poem was well executed and a poem that can touch all those who read it. There is something that can anyone can relate to and really understand and feel.

“Darling, I Told You” is a poem that you cannot forget.
