An Undead Boy

Charlie is a miracle of science. After showing all the signs that a dead body would possess – lack of pulse, deathly pale skin and no need to breathe in oxygen - he is still walking and talking, going to school like every ordinary teenager. However, the change from living, breathing human to undead zombie has stripped Charlie of some of the things he loved most in the world; cheese, his friends and most of all, his mother. Charlie is completely alone in the world. That is, until he meets Danielle.

Rather than taking the popular route and avoiding him like the plague, Danielle befriends Charlie. Their unconventional friendship involves a number of secret meet-ups in the school library, where Danielle slowly begins to change Charlie’s views on his condition and the way people perceive him. However, as the two get closer and closer, it becomes more difficult to hide their friendship from the masses of judgemental beings who would disapprove of the living and undead alliance.

An Undead Boy is unique in the sense that it buys into the recent craze of zombie fiction without the typical end-of-the-world apocalypse that many know and love. Hayleyisbored has created a character that not only demands sympathy, but completely debunks the entire zombie stereotype. Charlie is loveable, a typical teenage boy that the audience can relate to. As the story progresses, we get to grow with Charlie, watching him as he tackles what should be ordinary teenage obstacles with a determination that grows and grows.
