MM Reviews: Even Lovers Drown

Title: Even Lovers Drown
Author: Dakota Ray
Rating: R
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Romance

It takes a great deal of strength to understand the most incomprehensible and horrific situations in today’s society, but to be able convey such pain and sorrow to an audience through words alone takes great skill. In the completed story Even Lovers Drown, written by outstanding writer Dakota Ray, the reader is pulled into a world of abuse and hardship so realistic you feel like you're drowning in the emotions of these characters.

A year after enduring merciless torture at the hands of her now ex-girlfriend, Saylor Jones agrees to go on tour with popular band Say Goodbye at the request of her step-brother Davy -- the band’s merch guru. All is well until Say Goodbye’s front woman Blake Andrews starts to evoke terrifying flashbacks of Saylor’s ex-girlfriend Katie. Despite Saylor’s attempts to avoid Blake, she cannot resist the temptation of an exciting new love -- this sets off a game of cat and mouse that will have both Saylor - and you the reader - conflicted.

Dakota Ray’s proficient writing is only enhanced by her arresting storytelling. What would normally become a story about the concept of a homosexual relationship and most likely be chalk-full of smut, we are given insight into the world of domestic abuse and its lasting effects on its victims. The focus of the homosexual aspect of the relationship comes secondary to the more controversial topics of exploitation and grief, the story playing on Saylor's memories of the cruelty she endured. All of this adds to the overall shock value of the story, pulling the reader that much deeper into the broken mind of our protagonist.

One of the most interactive and realistic stories posted on Mibba by far, it’d be a mistake to not take a peek at this story. Warning: Reading this story may result in becoming invested in characters, lack of sleep and a burning rage for Katie that stays with you long after you finish reading.

Thanks to Fandango and everybody dies; for editing this piece.
