Wrists
Wrists is a beautiful original story centering around the isolated life of Graham, an unforgettable boy unlike the rest of them. He tells the seventy-seven chapters from a past-tense first-person, paying near obsessive attention to detail and timing in his life. Graham must make his black coffee at 6:50 and drink it at 7 sharp, or else his day is ruined.
The story-line follows Graham as he allows for the first time someone enter his life and his thoughts - a wonderful boy by the name of Elijah, who helps Graham to bring himself out of the shell he has made.
Though the last update was a full two years ago, Wrists retains its ability to move the reader to tears - tears of anger, tears of joy, tears of full sadness. It's a beautifully written tale of love, loss, and recovery, and learning to be free.
Wrists is one of those haunting stories that stays with you long after you've read it - beginning in the deepest shadows of suicidal depression and coming out on a slightly lighter note. If you've never read this or the rest of AHLICE's stories, most of them focus around eating disorders and mental illness. Though semi-controversial topics, they're very well-written.
