The Life and Times of Roman Maslov is the account of a young Russian boy who died at birth due to a rare blood disease. He was sent to an American hospital when his heart stopped beating, the Dearborn Institute of Biomedical Technology, and was revived. Due to his mother's pleading, they did all they could for the boy and miraculously cured Roman of his disease. However, a year later, the Dearborn Institute was shut down after being found guilty of unethical experimentation. As the years went by, former patients of Dearborn began to grow sick and die; all except for Roman.

Roman Maslov is a curious case. The experiments done on him remain unknown, but there was an intriguing result. At the age of four, it is quickly discovered that Roman has incredible strength, which he demonstrated on another child after he broke Roman's toy. After being tested, it is revealed that Roman has the strength of a powerful fifteen year old male. Of course, if he doesn't learn how to control his strength - or perhaps even his temper - this power could prove incredibly dangerous.

Pelican park. has pieced together a fantastic start to a story. The plot is obviously fiction, yet so realistically possible that you can't help but read and wonder if this could actually happen. On top of this, she has a superb description style as well as beautiful prose. What is even more amazing is how she is able to blend together so many genres and still have a easy to follow story. Lovers of drama, romance, and science fiction will all find this story very pleasing to their tastes.
