MM Reviews: Declaration of a Suicide

Author: Beard
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Tragedy | Teen
Rating: R

Suicide is an act that entices different reactions from different people. Why did they do it? How could they be so selfish? How did we not see anything was wrong? And despite all the questions, an answer is never found if the person who attempted suicide ends up succeeding - likewise, even if the person survives they tend never to give their actual answer to those they love, and all for different reasons too. They wouldn't understand. They'll make everything about them. I don't want them to know how bad it is.

A topic broached in stories on Mibba a lot is suicide, and more often than not it's the main character that is the one contemplating the action. Declaration of a Suicide shakes that up with the fact that it's the main character's brother who committed suicide, something that is revealed before the first chapter. The journey that takes place in the fifteen chapters that comprise the story is one that is heartbreaking and powerful. The reader can't help but be hit with the emotion that the main character just emits through every word. Beard is someone whose ability to write about such a powerful topic can only be commended.

With just over 1,500 words, this completed story is not one that takes a long time to read, but it is a story that strikes deep into a reader's mind. As a situation that could happen to anyone, one question can't help but be raised: would you notice something was wrong?
