MM Reviews: Bird

Title: Bird
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Drama | Mystery | Teen
Rating: PG-13

Alexandria "Bird" Collins went missing on 1 December, 2003. She was fourteen years old.

Mattie is her best friend who has never given up.

Bird tells the story of what it's like to be left behind by someone that is missing - and it also tells the story of how hope can be what proves the most important in a situation of despair. Its short chapters are to the point, delivering what's necessary all the while drawing the reader in more and more. Questions are raised throughout the story and the reader can't help but support Mattie through his determination to not let his friend's memory die.

With currently sixteen chapters, they alternate between her point of view and his, giving a shocking and heart-wrenching look into her situation while his situation becomes one that appears to have a chance. Meghan Miraculous digs deep into both of their emotions in order to produce such intense chapters in so little words, giving emphasis to her ability to burrow deep into her characters and portray their struggles realistically to the reader.

While some might not like a story that has two perspectives, Bird contains just enough of both to make it flow nicely together as it goes from the desolation that she constantly feels to the hope that now glimmers in his life. The journey to come is sure to be enthralling and emotional. It's one not to be missed.
