Dead at Heart
On the outside, Claire might seem like any other normal nine year old girl. But she was different. At age nine, she realized that she could hear the voices of everything around her. She could hear the voices of the walls, the grass, the furniture and she could even hear the voices of the dead.
At age nine, Claire also met a girl named Mary. Mary was an odd girl that just moved into the neighbourhood. She was friendly and had white hair. And somehow, Claire found herself becoming friends with her although she was against the idea at first. She just wanted to be normal again.
I think, for the most part, Javin Pilotte did a great job in writing this story. The way she weaves the words to form sentences that bring the story together, in my opinion, is flawless. She’s able to bring the readers into Claire’s mind and how she’s struggling with the voices in her head.
This story also brings forth the value of friendship that you can see between Mary and Claire and the other kids from the neighbourhood. I cannot wait until these children grow up and how they turn out as adults.
If you are looking for an original fiction that is different than your normal fictions, Dead at Heart is definitely a story to check out.
