MM Reviews: Howling at the Sun

Type: Fan Fiction
Genre: Romance | Drama | Fantasy
Rating: PG-13

For those that have watched the Game of Thrones series, it's common knowledge that Robert Baratheon defeated Rhaegar Targaryen, Jamie Lannister killed King Aerys, and Robert claimed the Iron Throne and took Cersei Lannister as his bride. But what if things happened differently? Imagine Jamie killed King Aerys but Rhaegar defeated Robert and assumed the throne as his father's heir. All the events that we know to have happened no longer occurred and now Rhaegar has to seek vengeance for his father's murder as well as uniting the Seven Kingdoms. How else would he do that than through the political move known as marriage?

Tabitha Stark, younger sister of Eddard Stark, is summoned to King's Landing to marry Viserys Targaryen to bring peace for the North after they joined Robert's Rebellion only for the Targaryens to win. While at King's Landing she meets Oberyn Martell, the Queen's brother who is to marry Cersei Lannister as House Lannister's payment for their role in the death of King Aerys. And everything starts from there.

aries.angel has taken an event many fans know and twisted it to show an entirely different side that was never given for the show. She is able to write in such a way that the reader can envision the scenes actually happening and is allowed to connect with Tabitha during her time at King's Landing as she awaits her unwanted marriage. With seventeen chapters that detail her journey, Howling at the Sun allows the reader to read from start to finish and fully immerse themselves into her thoughts and feelings about everything that happens with Viserys, Oberyn and the wedding.

Although this appears to be a story for fans of the show, non-fans can read and still follow the events soundly. There is no need for previous knowledge to enjoy the writing and story that aries.angel provides. What's more, there's an active sequel that carries on from the final events. So if Howling at the Sun ends too quickly, there's the sequel to quench that thirst.

Special thanks to silent hearts. and nearly witches. for editing.
