Title: Sunflower
Author: swell
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Drama | Drabble
Rating: R

There are many wonderful original fictions posted upon the site. Many range from being long with numerous chapters, to some of them being shorter with just a few parts to their names. Sunflower, written by swell, is the latter. However, just because an original fiction is shorter than most, doesn't mean it's necessarily not as engaging or enticing to read.

Despite its title, Sunflower is not the brightest or happiest story to read on Mibba. Jess is a girl who parties with friends, indulges in too much alcohol, and does drugs. On one night of hard partying, while drugged and experiencing the best high she's ever had, she winds up standing in front of her house, watching it burn along with her parents who are still inside; and with a lighter kept within her grasp, she's suspected of being the one who did it. With having been deemed the one responsible for the arson, Jess is now sitting through meetings with her psychologist in order to get the “help” she clearly needs.

What sets Sunflower apart from most other fictions, is that while most stories have a clear balance of dialogue and description, the story focuses mainly on the verbal exchanges between her characters - Jess and her psychologist. As most of the writing is dialogue, the chemistry between the two main characters is great. Jess is not one to let anyone figure her out, this being quite clear as their first meetings are rough due to Jess's strong character, but her psychologist is one who is determined to do just that. swell writes her characters well, and when inside of Jess's head, her words tend to resonate with the reader and leave an impact.

All in all, Sunflower is an original fiction that is short, but splendid. While the chapters are brief, the content is deep and will hold your attention as Jess and her psychologist talk about what happened on the night of April 28th. It's a short story that will most definitely keep you hooked till the end and leave you feeling content and satisfied when it comes to its close.
