MM Reviews: Dear Olive
Imagine a society where you could be reborn. Where your freckles, your wonky nose and your bad habit of biting your nails could be fixed with a few alterations. Because being perfect, pure and refined will lead to a brighter future for yourself. And surely that's something that everyone would want, right?
Wrong.
Dear Olive is a new story that deals with a protagonist who has been struck with the horrific truth that his closest friend - and the girl he loved - has undergone being reborn. Gone is the girl he knew, the girl he loved, and in her place is someone he doesn't recognise even though she desperately tries to convince him that she's just an improved version of the girl he knew before. But Charlie struggles to accept this truth.
With only five chapters so far, Dear Olive is one of those stories that just oozes potential, where the first few chapters have set such a strong structure for the story that readers cannot help but be enthralled by what is surely to come. RiotGurl has this type of simplistic writing that allows her to keep her chapters short and sweet while still packing them full of everything necessary to make it interesting.
With the word count resting at just over three thousand for the five chapters, this is a story that starts off as a quick read and is one that readers will be keen to keep track of. After all, there's so much more to learn about being reborn and RiotGurl is sure to delve into that later on. So don't miss out!
