Featured Poem: The Competition

The achievement of winning something important to you is often an incredibly emotional time, and it can arouse many feelings of pride, happiness, and excitement in us all. It can be hard to create a snapshot of those feelings in order to present them to somebody else and, often, others will not understand why you are so happy. However, Agvirre.C has done a wonderful job of capturing the joy of doing something you can be proud of in their poem, The Competition. With a delightfully simple structure and a rhyme scheme that draws everything together, this poem is definitely one to get the spirits soaring!

Give us a quick summary of The Competition.

The Competition is a poem that I wrote for my English class my freshman year. It’s about my feelings winning a bronze medal in the 2014 SCSBOA championships. It starts off with my thoughts just after we'd performed and jumps to the moment when the band was called down to the field to receive our medal. It also shortly describes the pride that I felt hearing the spectators cheering.
