Up and Coming: Saved

There are many fandoms on Mibba and although some of them get more attention than the others, there are some hidden gems amongst the lesser-known fandoms! One of those fandoms is Homestuck. With new stories being updated frequently, it can be difficult to choose what to read but when it comes to new stories, Saved by gallowsCalibrator is one to watch! I caught up with the author in order to find out a bit more about this piece of work, and their opinions on Mibba overall.

Tell us a little bit about Saved.

Saved is a Homestuck fanfiction with a University AU sort of thing. It's about a blind girl named Terezi who transfers colleges to get away from an abusive ex-boyfriend of hers and makes some friends. She finds out that one of them was someone she knew in high school when he mentions that Terezi's ex was transferring in also. In her new friend group is a really mean, to put it lightly, girl named Vriska. The end up falling for each other, but not before her ex arrives. It's basically about going through the process of recovering from abuse, rape, and loving again.

What was the inspiration behind Saved?

Well, I've been through a lot of abuse myself, both child abuse, like Vriska, and domestic abuse, like Terezi, and it was almost a vent story at first but I found that I liked writing it despite the heavy content.

How long have you been writing Saved?

I've actually been writing it since 2014. I wrote an original version of it along with its second part, Through Hell and Back, in 2014, but I started re-writing Saved in late 2014, early 2015 because I knew I could write better than the original. I started re-writing it and then due to life events I stopped for months before picking it up again.

Do you have any other stories that you think people might enjoy?

Well I have Rewind and Repeat posted on here also, even though I'm not done writing it yet. I'm still working on it! It's another Homestuck fanfic, but it's based on the home planet of a good portion of the characters in the comic. Most of the characters in the comic I can think of aren't human and are from this planet, so I'm writing a fic based on the culture there. I've put a lot of time into planning this one out and I'm very proud of it so far, I think other people might like it!

What is your favourite thing about Mibba?

I really like how you can make layouts for your stories! I think that it adds really nice addition to your story. I actually don't know how to make them, some people dear to me have been helping with that!

Do you have any favourite stories on Mibba?

Blind Faith and Closer to the Edge are my two favorites!

What would you like to say to anybody who reads your stories?

I really hope that you enjoy reading my stories; I know I've enjoyed writing them! Despite some things being hard emotionally to put down on paper, I do it anyway for the sake of the story and for everyone who reads and enjoys them.

And finally, if you could choose only one genre of book to read for the rest of your life, what would you choose and why?

Oh that's an easy question, dystopian novels! I love that genre, it shows that even though the government is telling you that everything is perfect, it's nothing more than empty lies to placate the public in order for them to overlook all the problematic things going on. Society runs smoothly as is, until something comes along to overthrow that because it's all wrong. I really like the genre, and I would gladly just read that for the rest of my life.
