Featured Story: Sable

Taken from everything she knows and forced into a world where she's expected to be something great, Sable Kingsing struggles to adapt in a world that's beyond what she could have ever imagined. While others seem to know more about her than she does, she has to learn whether there is anyone she can trust. Here's FullMoon2012 to tell us more about Sable and what's behind this story.

Give us a brief summary of Sable.

Sable is about a girl who believes she's just a normal girl living a normal life, until she gets kidnapped one night by a group of people claiming to be vampires, saying she's the reincarnation of an ancient goddess. She doesn't believe any of it until she meets the goddess in a dream, and awakens the next day with her powers.

How long have you been working on it?

I've been working on this story for about a month; although technically it's a rewrite of a story I've been working on for nearly ten years.

What inspired to you write this story?

Originally the inspiration for this story was my silly 14-year-old-self's obsession with vampires. Last month this story just became something to get me back into writing; it's not that great, but it's a trial run and I'm trying not to be a perfectionist with it. In the middle of this month it became somewhat of a way to relieve stress. I guess events going on in my life are the inspiration.

Do you have a favourite character?

I don't know if I have a favourite character just yet; this story is still blossoming. I guess my favourite would be- possible spoiler alert- Inara's familiar. He's been lost in a void since the death of the original goddess, and comes back completely confused, because suddenly his Inara is gone and another girl has taken her place.

Are there any pre-writing habits you have to do before you can write?

I don't really have any pre-writing habits. There's just suddenly this buzz of energy that flows through me, and I HAVE to write. It just has to be done; there are words at my fingertips waiting to be put down on paper. Sometimes the characters run away from me and everything turns out completely different compared to how I wanted it to go. Curse those crazy people.

What led to the title choice?

Honestly originally the title came from a lack of inspiration for coming up with a title. As I wrote I thought, "Actually, this makes sense to me. This story is about a girl who's told she's the reincarnation of someone else, and is expected to fill some big shoes. So she's clinging tightly onto what she has: who she actually is, and not what these people want her to be."

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

I guess I would like to say to my readers: writing is hard. It will kick your butt. Just roll with the punches, and if you become stuck on something focus on something else for a little while. It might not always work, but 70% of the time it'll come back to you and you'll wonder why you ever were stuck.
