The Fault in Our Stars Quotes

'I was gawky and she was gorgeous and I was hopelessly boring and she was endlessly fascinating. So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane.'

If for nothing else, writer John Green is best known for this wildly popular line from his debut novel Looking for Alaska (2005). Several years and novels later, he’s released yet another piece that’s chock-full of beautifully worded sentiment.

In losing control.’s latest writing contest, she asks Mibbians to create stories out of quotes from the undoubtedly inspiring The Fault in Our Stars.

But losing control. doesn’t just want Mibbians to stuff the quotes given into a story. As stated in her contest thread, she want stories based on the “idea behind the quote.” She wants participants to really think about and explore all possible meanings of these quotes and come up with a piece that’s special and meaningful.

Mibba Photo Prompt Contest

Last month, the Mibba Magazine held a photography contest asking Mibba’s photographers to submit their best work. In the end, there was one first place winner - Airi - and five runner ups1. This month, the Mibba Magazine is featuring those six winning photos and using them in the Mibba Photo Prompt Contest.

The task is simple. Participants have until September 15th to write a story inspired by one of the six photographs. The stories submitted must be newly written (no prewrites) and no more than 2,000 words long, but they can be from any genre or type (original, fan fiction, or true story). If you’d like to join this contest, or if you’d simply like a little inspiration for your next story, be sure to check out the contest thread here.

What Are the Chances?

The final contest in this week’s line-up is simplici visu’s unique What Are the Chances? contest. This contest, unlike most writing contests here on Mibba, is one that allows Mibbians multiple chances to enter and win.

Each month, participants have up until the 20th to submit their entries - these entries can be stories or poems of any genre, type, rating or level of completion. Then, on the 20th, five numbers will be drawn and the stories with those numbers will be the month’s winners. The number one pick for the month will receive a full story review, rating, and promotion, and the runner ups will receive a smaller array of prizes.

The great thing about this contest is that it’s all based on chance. There’s no screening or judging. No qualification to fit or limits on how many pieces you can enter. And it’s even open to poems! All you need to do is enter a prewritten piece and you’ve got a chance at winning. How much easier can it get?

If you’d like to enter simplici visu’s contest, just take a look at her contest thread here and leave her a link to your submission(s).

Deadline: No deadline, winners picked every 20th of the month.
