Featured Story of the Week: Catfish

Catfish is an incredible One Direction fan fiction which features the lovely Liam Payne. This story, which is surprisingly different from anything I've read on Mibba, is one that I have fallen in love with. In this week's Featured Story, we learn all about the amazing story from the author herself, Maddi;.

Give us a brief summary of Catfish.

Catfish is the story of the odd romance between Liam Payne and Penelope Carter. It all began one night when Liam got drunk and accidentally dialled Penelope's number instead of his friend's. Even though the two had never met, they talked all night and into the morning. The next day, Liam called Penelope again and every day after that. The two began a romance that relied strictly on technology, and a year later, the two still haven't had their first meeting, mainly because Liam is lying about who he is. Penelope has no idea that he is famous, so he fears what will happen when she finds out. He is determined to meet her though, so he enlists the help of Nev Schulman and MTV's Catfish to make his dream come true.

What inspired you to write this story?

I was watching an episode of Catfish on MTV where the boy thought he was in an online relationship with a former Miss Teen USA, but of course, it turned out that he wasn't. I automatically thought of what it would be like to have the situation flipped, and have someone who was famous pretending not to be famous. It seems like a somewhat likely scenario, since they would want someone to like them for who they are instead of what they are and I knew I had to write it.

How did you choose the title for this story?

I'm clearly not a genius with titles, so I just named it after the show. At least it represents the story pretty well, right?!

What is your favorite thing about writing this story?

Liam is just a doll in this, so every time I write him I just smile. He is so sweet and charming, and still so nervous at the same time. It's just impossible for me not to fall in love with him, so he makes this story so fun for me. Nev is also pretty adorable, so he is a blast to write.

What is the most challenging thing about writing this story?

I'm in a lot of group writes, and with this being a solo story, it's sometimes weird not to have other writers talking to me about it and not having anyone to bounce ideas off of.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

As dorky as it sounds, I have to have an episode of Catfish playing in the background, especially if I'm writing a scene with Nev in it. It just helps. I'm also a huge fan of eating junk food while I write, so I usually have Mountain Dew and some ice cream. I'm clearly a very healthy person.
