Featured Story of the Week: Hooked

When the hit television show, Once Upon a Time, was created, fairy tales were flipped on their heads, leaving the characters in a state of madness. Tabulasa rasa. was immediately inspired by the show, and Hooked was born. In this week's Featured Story, readers get a closer look at the brilliant fan fiction that will knock the socks off an reader.

Give us a brief summary of Hooked.

Hooked focuses on the interactions between Ariel and Hook/Killian Jones after Hook arrives in Storybrooke. While all of this is happening, Ariel is dealing with painful memories of her past while Hook is focused on getting his revenge.

What inspired you to write Hooked?

I just really love Captain Hook-- I'm absolutely obsessed with him, so of course I wanted to write a story revolving around him. I got the idea for Ariel from GreenEyedMoon and then I kind of just went from there.

How long have you been working on it?

I have been working on this story since the end of February. I thought about waiting to start it, but I was just too excited to write it.

How did you choose the title for this story?

The title of my story is so cliche-- but of course, it was inspired by Hook himself. I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the title.

What is your favorite thing about writing Hooked?

I really love creating my own version of Ariel. I'm using aspects that I remember from the Disney movie, but I'm kind of making them my own. It's kind of fun to write her memories with Prince Eric and coming up with what was happening there. I also really enjoy writing the interactions between Ariel and Hook. She's always just kind of annoyed with him, and he's always flirting. It's fun!

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

Probably doing Hook's side of the story. I kind of want to keep that in line with the show, but I'm still waiting for new episodes of Once Upon A Time and for Hook to make his reappearance. I'm hoping with the return of episodes next week, I'll have some more material to work with there.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

So far I haven't had any serious bouts of writer's block (knock on wood). Typically though, I'll just listen to the playlist I made for the story and hope to get some inspiration through music.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I typically just wing it. Sometimes I might write something down when I get an idea for a future chapter, but otherwise I don't typically have an outline. I always tend to have a vague idea of where I want the story to go, though.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

Sometimes I'll read through the chapters that I have posted, just to see how I should transition into the next update before I start writing. I also listen to my music playlist that I created for the story. I don't really have any post writing rituals though. At least, none that I can think of.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

I would just like to say that all of my readers are amazing, and I truly appreciate everyone who has subscribed, commented, and recommended this story. Everyone has been so supportive and helpful! I hope everyone is enjoying reading this story as much as I enjoy writing it!
