Featured Poem: When Do Angels Receive Their Secret Wings?

"When Do Angels Recieve Their Sacred Wings?" is a wonderful poem about angels. In this week's Featured Poem, we take a closer look at this work.

How would you summarize "When Do Angels Recieve Their Sacred Wings?"?

It's a sonnet saying angels aren't always these pure, beautiful creatures they can sometimes be made out to be. They can be deadly as well, with dark forces controlling them, out to destroy us.

How did you choose the title for it?

It's funny, because I actually didn't pick the title myself. This poem was an assignment for my English class last year, when we were learning about poetry. My teacher wrote down a bunch of random lines, and everyone had to pick one. That line would serve as the first line and the title of the poem. This was the line I personally picked from the box the second time, because I didn't like the first line I randomly picked out.

What inspired you to write this poem?

Again, it was an English assignment, and everything I tried with this poem seemed too sweet and pure for me, and I couldn't finish it. So then I thought, "why do angels have to be pure? Why can't they be dark?" I wanted to surprise the other kids in my class, because I figured they would all have sweet poems, and I wanted something different, something darker.

What was your favorite thing about writing "When Do Angels Recieve Their Sacred Wings?"?

Honestly, I hated writing this poem, because of how long it took me. The poem had to be a Shakespearean Sonnet, meaning each line had to have ten syllables with a rhyme scheme of abab cdcd efef gg, and getting those ten syllables for each line and making it all rhyme and flow together was tough. Once I finished it though, I realized I loved the poem as a whole. It has that dark effect you might not expect, especially with this kind of title. So I guess my favorite thing about writing it was giving it that darkness.

When writing, do you have any rituals you follow?

I try to not to force myself when writing poetry, because I feel like if I do, I end up with a poem that sounds bad and doesn't flow. I write down what I can, but if the rest won't come, I try to return to it later. I also like rhyming a lot in my poetry :3

Is there anything you would like to say to anyone who reads your poem?

Yes. And that is, I love you! And also, thanks for taking the time to check my poem out, it means a lot!

Do you have any other poems you think people would enjoy?

I sure hope so! I have 27 poems overall on Mibba apparently, and opinions are always welcome on each of them!

Special thanks to dougie poynter; and Airi. for editing!
