Featured Poem: Beautiful Bird

"Beautiful Bird" is a wonderful poem about facing your fears. In this week's Featured Poem, we take a closer look at this amazing poem.

How would you summarize "Beautiful Bird"?

Basically, it’s about facing your fears and using them to be able to find out who you are. It’s one that’s really close to my heart.

How did you choose the title for it?

Birds to me are the symbol of freedom. I mean, they can fly anywhere they want to at anytime. It doesn't get more free than that. I thought it would be the perfect symbol for my poem.

What inspired you to write this poem?

I'm a foster kid, and I'm scared of change and displeasing people because I've been through so many families, that I'm afraid to be given up again. It’s really about me learning to get out from under my shell and actually live for once instead of being afraid.

What was your favorite thing about writing "Beautiful Bird"?

The hope of helping someone else in a situation like mine was really exciting for me. If I could help one person face their fears, then my goal of writing this poem is a success.

When writing, do you have any rituals you follow?

It really depends on what I'm writing, but when it comes to poetry I really have to boundaries set for myself. I write them when I feel inspired to do them, and most of the time the words just fall out from my pen. But under most circumstances, I write them on paper before I type them out.

Is there anything you would like to say to anyone who reads your poem?

I'd just say that life is too short to live in fear. The sooner you face them, the sooner you'll achieve happiness. Ever since I brought my walls down, I've made more friends and I'm a much better person all together.

Do you have any other poems you think people would enjoy?

At the moment, I don't have any other poems posted. A long time ago I was on Mibba with a different account, but shut it down because I was taking a break from my writing. But I promise I'll have a lot real soon that a lot of Mibba users will be able to relate to.
