Featured Story of the Week: Your Eyes Caught Mine

Your Eyes Caught Mine is a wonderful fan fiction written by bullets are hailing. In this week's Featured Story, we take a closer look at this work.

Give us a brief summary of Your Eyes Caught Mine.

It's about Oliver Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon in his high school days and takes place in the month of December. During that month, he decides to go to the library and actually study for finals because he wants to get into a good college. He takes the bus to the library and on the first day he takes the bus, he sees a girl that's also waiting at the bus stop. All she does is smile at him, yet something about her look stays in his mind and he can't stop thinking about her. This girl ends up going to the same library and coincidentally sits across from him during his study sessions. At first he thinks of this as nothing, but as the days pass he feels like it could be something more.

What inspired you to write Your Eyes Caught Mine?

A year ago, I watched a short video on Youtube titled Serendipity and it was about a boy and girl who sat across from each other in a library and how they caught each other's eyes. I loved the concept of the video and thought it was adorable, but then completely forgot about it. It wasn't until about a few weeks ago, I stumbled across the video again while I was in the library myself and a story idea came into my mind and I wanted it to feature Oliver.

How long have you been working on this story?

I worked on this story and finished it in exactly one week. Though that seems quick, it still felt like a long time for me since it took me three days to finish just one chapter. I worked on each chapter for a few hours each day because once I started writing, I really couldn't stop.

What is your favorite thing about writing Your Eyes Caught Mine?

Definitely writing Oliver's thoughts because it was fun to write what goes on in a boy's mind when he sees a girl that catches his interest. I also liked revealing who the girl was at the end. Without spoiling anything, I wanted to surprise people about who she was because I don't think they expected it to be her.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

Writing Oliver's thoughts without making him seem too creepy or unrealistic. There were a few thoughts of his that I rewrote because sometimes they sounded cliché and weird.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

I actually experienced writer's block before I wrote this story. This was the first story I've written in two years and I overcame writer's block because of it.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I just wing it. As much as I try to write an outline, I end up thinking of more and more things and change things a lot, too.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

I tell myself what I plan to write. I make a goal to at least make it to a certain part that I've had in my head for a while. In between, I take a few breaks and listen to a lot of music. Music plays a big part in my writing and I find that it helps me write more, especially when the song relates to the story.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
