Featured Story of the Week: The Monster Inside

The Monster Inside is a wonderful Avengers fan fiction by Koda. In this week's Featured Story, we take a closer look at this work.

Give us a brief summary of The Monster Inside.

The Monster Inside is pretty much the story of Loki Laufeyson who gets trapped on Earth without any powers to help him out in the world. He has also lost his immortality. When a young woman named Catherine Holt finds him, she looks past all of his flaws. Since Loki failed at his attempt to claim Earth, the Chitauri are furious at him and start looking for him while Catherine finds out some interesting things about herself. This story doesn't follow the second Thor movie btw.

What inspired you to write The Monster Inside?

Well, I have written on Mibba before about two years ago and I never finished any of my stories. I had maybe six or seven of them on here but I really wanted to start writing again so I was really interested in Loki and Norse Mythology at the time of writing this story so I just sat down and began.

How long have you been working on this story?

Hmm, well I started writing on March 15th, posted my first chapter up on the 16th so I guess for around two weeks, but there was a time period there where I think I got so excited about writing again, I just came up with something, threw it on the internet, and come to find out, I didn't really like what I had wrote so the first three chapters are edited.

What is your favorite thing about writing The Monster Inside?

I believe it would be the emotion I get from writing some parts of it. There is a few spots in the story that I almost make myself cry because I get so deep into the emotions of the characters and then I think "Well what would I feel if this happened to me?"

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

Well, honestly, detailing in the story is pretty tough. I keep thinking to myself, "Oh no, this is too much detail. No one is going to read it. Details are boring." But then I keep thinking that details are the main words in a book. If you have no details in a book, what is the point of reading it? You wouldn't be able to see what the author is seeing in their mind.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

Actually, since its a fairly new story, I haven't gotten writers block with this story, yet. I am sure it will come, but I will just have to clear my head and ask myself why I wrote this story to begin with.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I kind of just wing it. I mean I will write down on a piece of notebook paper what I want to type but then I go to type it and I will think of other details I can put in or instead of using another sentence, I will just keep going with the one I am on.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

When I write this story I have to be listening to piano music. That kind of gets me into the feeling of writing and then it gets the emotion set right. Sometimes when I write I wish I could just make a playlist of what I am writing so they reader will feel the emotion as well. lol.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

Criticism is greatly appreciated, but only serious criticism. I had a story that one of the people who commented on an earlier story would go and be like "You need more cliff hangers or whatever." and I would think about it and be like "Oh yeah..I do don't I?" But, I hope everyone likes it. I know there are probably some grammatical issues and such but I do try my best.

Special thanks to aubs and Maddi; for editing!
