Featured Poem: Consumption

Consumption is a wonderful poem by c0llid3withmyb0n3r. In this week's Featured Poem, we take a closer look at this amazing poem!

How would you summarize Consumption?

Consumption is basically about a teenage girl who is struggling with high school and turns to drugs for comfort. It's in a darker tone, but it really means a lot to me and my friends who are going through similar situations.

How did you choose the title for it?

I chose the name Consumption because the poem describes how a person can be consumed or feel empty while going through difficult problems in their life, especially for a teenager.

What inspired you to write this poem?

My inspiration for this poem was my best friend, who is going through an extremely hard time in her life and turned to drugs and alcohol for comfort. I have always been there for her and I'm continuing to help her get past her addiction.

What was your favorite thing about writing Consumption?

My favorite part of writing this poem was the connection I had to the character. I was able to put in some of my thoughts and feelings and that is what I try to do in a lot of my work.

When writing, do you have any rituals you follow?

I don't have any specific rituals, but I usually jot down ideas on paper at school and work a few hours on it at home with a cup of hot tea.

Is there anything you would like to say to anyone who reads your poem?

I'd just like to say that no matter the situation, drugs are never the answer. I have seen them destroy the lives of the ones I love and no one should ever have to go through that. There's always someone to turn to.

Do you have any other poems you think people would enjoy?

I do, and I plan on posting them on this website as soon as I can.
