Featured Story of the Week: Town of Silver Linings

Town of Silver Linings is an amazing original fiction written by sidra. In this week's Featured Story, we take a closer look at this gripping fantasy story!

Give us a brief summary of Town of Silver Linings.

Carnelian Valentyn is beckoned to the town of Silvan Woods by her aunt and is given an opportunity to brighten her future after graduation. But her new job has trapped her in a power struggle between several factions of Silvan Woods -- and not all of them are human.

What inspired you to write Town of Silver Linings?

A relative of mine mentioned to me a book about humans and a supernatural race trying to co-exist in a secluded town. The idea took root in my mind and eventually I started outlining and doing some planning for a story similar to that. Then I saw the June Write-a-Thon and it spurred me into actually starting the story.

How long have you been working on this story?

I started working on this story at the beginning of June.

What is your favorite thing about writing Town of Silver Linings?

My favorite thing about writing this story is the characters and how they tie in with each other.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

The most challenging thing is information control; making sure I’m not overwhelming the readers with a ton of material within a single chapter, or having a majority of the dialogue being informative.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

It’s too early for me to have writer’s block for this story, but when it comes hopefully my goal of 50k will keep me from being stuck for too long.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I usually outline my stories but they’re always pretty vague and I end up winging it from chapter to chapter.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

Before writing I make a playlist of songs that relate to the content of the chapter.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
