Original Fiction of the Week: White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys

White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys is a wonderful original fiction written by ziaco. In this edition of Original Fiction of the Week, we take a closer look at this wonderful work.

Give us a brief summary of White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys.

White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys is a typical one-sided love story except for one key detail: that both characters are male. Ansel, an openly-gay teenager, is irrevocably in love with his best friend, Henry. The problem is that Henry has a girlfriend, Sophia, and is seemingly straight. The story chronicles Ansel's internal and external struggles with loving his straight best friend, glimpses of his life before he fell in love, and both his and Henry's transition into self-discovery and finding out who you really are.

What inspired you to write White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys?

Nothing in particular, I just had a sudden bolt of inspiration to take up writing again and this plot came into my mind.

How long have you been working on this story?

Not that long, really, maybe four weeks by now? I posted it and started working on it right when I thought of the plot.

What is your favorite thing about writing White Teeth and Blue-Blooded Boys?

I think my favorite thing has to be when I write Ansel's feelings at any given moment. I just really enjoy writing deep, moving emotions. Also Ansel and Theo have a very interesting dynamic and I can't wait to write more about that.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

The most challenging thing is the pacing and "what's going to happen next?" Since I've been away from writing chaptered stories it's been a little difficult to drag things out and have them progress in a logical manner, but hopefully I'll ease back into it and whatnot.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

The first three or so chapters I had already in my head, but after that - yes. To get over it I usually listen to music, take a break from even thinking about my story, and read books. Reading a good book usually gives me that need to write again.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

Honestly, most of the time I just write. But then of course I re-arrange and make changes and all that good stuff before I actually post it.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

I usually listen to music while I write. Afterwards I always make sure to re-read the chapter and catch any spelling mistakes and such.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

Just thank you for reading, it means a lot!

Special thanks to silent hearts. and sheepcat; for editing!
