Original Fiction of the Week: Aphrodite

Aphrodite is an amazing original fiction written by losing control.. In this edition of Original Fiction of the Week, we take a closer look at this wonderful story.

Give us a brief summary of Aphrodite.

Aphrodite is a story about a relationship between two people that don't really know each other. I intentionally made it really mysterious so that's how I'm gonna describe it haha.

What inspired you to write Aphrodite?

I originally started writing it for NaNoWriMo 2012, and I found a story on Mibba that I adored while I was looking for inspiration so I used that as partial inspiration, and the song "Youth" by Daughter. I tried to base the story off of the emotion I got out of the song, if that makes sense.

How long have you been working on this story?

It took me a year and a half to finish it and I still go back and edit things.

What is your favorite thing about writing Aphrodite?

I loved being able to write from the point of view of a guy. It was really interesting.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

I think trying to include enough detail to not make everything confusing but still keeping the mystery in the story was the most challenging.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

I did, there was a point where I didn't update the story for close to 6 months. I ended up just sitting down and forcing myself to write a filler chapter so that I could get from where I was in the story to somewhere I could continue from which helped.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I had a bit of an outline for it. I knew exactly where I wanted it to go and where I wanted to start from, but I ended up winging the stuff in the middle.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

I had to listen to the same playlist and I always drank peppermint tea when I wrote it. Things never seemed to turn out the way I wanted them to when I didn't do those things.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

Thank you! I'm glad you guys could put up with the vague, slightly confusing way that I told the story and the reccs and comments meant everything to me.

Special thanks to nearly witches. and Goddess of Muse for editing!
