Fan Fiction of the Week: The Black Wizard

The Black Wizard is a Harry Potter fan fiction filled with the mystery and allure that the original series is known for. In this edition of Fan Fiction of the Week, we learn all about this wonderful story from its author, abreathbeyondbroken.

Give us a brief summary of The Black Wizard.

Actually, I'm not really sure where the story is going completely, but it's about a young girl who's inspired by Harry Potter and his adventures and when a new, mysterious boy comes to Hogwarts (he's really skilled in Defense Against the Dark Arts from Durmstrang Institute) she wants to know everything about him. And suddenly, some students just disappear. She thinks it's because of the new boy, Matthew. There will be some characters from the Harry Potter books, but not all.

What inspired you to write The Black Wizard?

I signed in on Pottermore again. It's been a long time since I've read the books and seen the movies, and I thought it would be fun to write a story about what happened after, with other students.

How long have you been working on this story?

I've been working on this story for a week or so, but I've only written two chapters. I'm working on the third and already have other ideas for later chapters.

What is your favorite thing about writing The Black Wizard?

Bending the story of Harry Potter a bit, introducing other characters that only exist in my head right now, and all the great things J.K. Rowling has written. It will always remain a beautiful story to me.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

All the details. People that are really into the Harry Potter fandom will surely point out the things I've written wrong (like places or spells,...). But it's a fun challenge!

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

No, not really. It's only two chapters long. I hope I won't get any writer's block, because it's awful. I've had it a lot, and mostly I don't finish the story. I just hope I will continue with this one.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

I just wing it. I have some ideas, but not really an outline.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

Go on Tumblr for a bit, search some pictures of Harry Potter, to get into the story. I do it with other stories too.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

Thank you so much for reading! I don't have that much readers at the moment but the ones that have read the story seem to like to so I'm happy and please comment if you see anything wrong, my mother tongue isn't English so there can be a lot of mistakes. Thank you anyways!

Special thanks to silent hearts. and Audrey T. for editing!
