Fan Fiction of the Week: Expectations

Expectations is a phenomenal Harry Potter fan fiction featuring the infamous Draco Malfoy. This wonderful story with a deep message: people are more than what they appear to be.

Give us a brief summary of Expectations.

Expectations is a story about friendship, understanding, and love. It's centered around two people that come from different sides of their world and manage to create a bond that saves them both, despite the differences in their upbringing.

What inspired you to write Expectations?

The Harry Potter series has always been my favorite. I became addicted to the books at an early age, and Draco Malfoy was one of my favorite characters from the beginning. There was a negative light shed on him, but I've always felt that he was misunderstood. The title was derived from the fact that his father had certain expectations of him, as well as Lord Voldemort. In a way, Expectations is my personal view of Draco, what he was like behind the facade that he showed the rest of the world.

How long have you been working on this story?

I've been working on Expectations for a couple of months. I started off with a completely different idea of where I wanted the story to go, so the changes I made caused a bit of a delay where the chapter updates were concerned.

What is your favorite thing about writing Expectations?

My favorite thing about writing Expectations is probably the sense of escape it gives me. To me, writing Expectations is like living in the world of Harry Potter.

What is the most challenging thing about writing it?

The most challenging thing about writing Expectations is time management. Being a full time college student, I don't get a lot of time to write and edit the way that I want to. It usually takes me a couple of days to a week to complete a chapter that I'm absolutely satisfied with.

Have you ever experienced writer's block with this story? If so, how did you overcome it?

I have experienced writer's block with Expectations, but there wasn't one way that I overcame it. Sometimes I have to force myself to sit down and just write anything. It could be a few lines of dialogue or just a general idea, but I always have to get something down on paper. That tends to help me a lot.

Do you write with an outline, or just wing it?

There are a couple of times that I've outlined a chapter, but most of the time I wing it. I like to think that my writing is at its best when I'm working under pressure.

Do you have any pre/post writing rituals?

I have to have a cup of chai tea with a small dash of milk and two spoonfuls of sugar whenever I sit down to write if I really want to accomplish anything.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

I really just want to say thank you to them. The comments and messages that I receive from them give me the inspiration to continue writing. It's honestly heartwarming that they enjoy my stories. I'm thankful for them.

Special thanks to Audrey T. and silent hearts. for editing!
