NaNoWriMo: Resources for a Great NaNoWrimo Novel

With November being the month of National Novel Writing Month – or NaNoWriMo, as it is more affectionately known – it is easy to become overwhelmed by the challenge of writing 50,000 words in a month while also balancing your everyday life. In this article, you’ll find websites to make that easier.

The first website is the home of NaNo’s forums themselves. Within these, you’ll find loads of resources from character development to world-building. Here, you’ll find the very helpful Character Profiling thread, which is a list of links to questionnaires and sheets to help create your character.

Outside of the NaNo site, Writing & Stuff is a nifty Tumblr post that has a list of helpful articles and reference sheets for your novel.

Another favorite is 100+ NaNoWriMo Preparation Tools. There are loads of resources divided into sections including: General Writing & Writing Habits, Book References, Dialogue, Outlining & Planning, Revising, and Finishing the Novel, to name a few.

Similar to Writing & Stuff and 100+ NaNoWriMo Preparation Tools is the Tumblr blog Reference For Writers. They have tons of inspirational quotes, random writing tips from authors, and strange little tidbits of information that are actually quite useful. On the sidebar there are quick links to their most popular tags, which are all full of incredible information.

The final website, Hiveword, is simply phenomenal. You can plan your entire novel on this one website. It is perfect for writing down your plotlines, character details, settings, and you can even go into detail and describe scenes and items. It is a great place to actually plan and even write your novel.

NaNoWriMo can be a challenging month, but if you take advantage of these resources it won’t be nearly as stressful. So buckle up and put on your writing cap; NaNo is here!
