Writing With: kaz brekker

kaz brekker is a fantastic writer who writes stories unlike the ones you’ve seen before. Everything about Faelyn’s writing differs from many authors on the site and ultimately her words become a fresh breath of air, as seen in Bambi and Obedear.

Bambi

“It was actually a weird process. I wrote the first version of this story in 2012 and I can't quite pinpoint what inspired it beyond a picture on Tumblr that said something about nymphomaniacs. I liked touching on the 'taboo', but in the sense that no one really likes to acknowledge the existence of sexual women without using derogatory names for them”

Bambi, otherwise known as Claire Reid, is a nymphomaniac. The story is narrated by Vincent Mahone, who was one of Claire’s sex toys before her death. As the chapters progress, we see the moments and emotions that led up to her final days.

“There's not a whole range of characters or anything in the story, but I probably favor Vincent more than my readers do. He's the narrator/storyteller so you're in his head the entire time, but he's a very emotional yet entirely misunderstood character. This story is actually finished and edited, so I'm currently working on self-publishing it as an e-book and maybe writing Claire's story as a "part two" of the sorts to round the e-book to something like 10k words.”

Obedear

“This was another story that kind of gathered inspiration all over the place. There was no specific thing that inspired it. This story went from very short chapters like Bambi to actually being a detailed story and I used a lot of "indie electronic" music as inspiration. I really just wanted to write some kind of romance that took place in those years between high school and college.”

The story touches on themes of love, drugs and death. It is the tale of Jaxon Reid, the main character who lost his parents, and his path towards living on his own. He encounters Venus Fraser and Aislinn Warner, both who have chaos written in their eyes.

When questioned about her favourite character and aspect of the story, Faelyn states, “Aislinn, definitely. When I first wrote her, she was a character that no one (even me) liked but when I rewrote her, actually put thought into her, I ended up loving her. She's sweet, free but still stuck in her own head, still dealing with her own heartbreak, and she's actually Jaxon's best friend in a sense. I don't wish I was more like her exactly, but I wish she were an actual friend.

“I know how it ends, I've always known how it ends with each character, but my readers don't and watching them watch how the characters develop from beginning to end is my favorite thing. And I like playing on the fact that there are different degrees of love. It's not always straight-forward, black or white; I like showing that there's so many shades of grey. It's one of my favorite things to write about in my more 'coming-of-age' stories.”

She finds inspiration with music. “I can't write without music; anything I produce without it feels awkward and unnatural. I make playlists for each story I create that fits the tone and even if it only has five songs on it, I'll listen to it on repeat until I'm tired of writing.”

Last month being her six-year anniversary with Mibba, Faelyn describes herself as “the sarcastic, procrastinating one that kind of fluctuates in activity despite checking Mibba every day and never really updates her stories ever and makes story/blog layouts out of utter boredom (and never uses or publishes them), but loves talking to everyone and acting like we've been best friends forever plus making layouts/icons for other Mibbians.”

Her stories will captivate you so firmly that you’ll read them in one go without even noticing.

Special thanks to losing control. and nearly witches. for editing.
