It's All About the Vibe

Most song contests ask participants to listen to a song and hear the lyrics to gain inspiration for their entry. While that's a a well-liked route, swell is going somewhere a bit different with her It's All About the Vibe contest.

While it still is a song contest, instead of relying solely on the lyrics, the host is asking users to gain inspiration from the song itself. Listen to the song and rather than focusing on what's being sung, focus on how the entire song — lyrics and music — feels. For example, when the host listens to "Feel So Close" by Calvin Harris, instead of getting the feeling of being close to someone, she interprets it as a song about hope and what's to come.

It's no secret that sometimes the music can contrast lyrics in a song, so go through the list that the host has provided in the first post, pick a song and get inspired!

A Penny for a Song [Title]

Titles can play a huge part in the content of a story. Some authors begin with a title and then develop from there, bringing to life a world that only came to be thanks to the title. A Penny for a Song [Title] sees nearly witches. having taken the title of songs and compiled them into a list that she wants users to go through and pick one to write an entry inspired by. Not of the song itself, but rather the title. So a user might pick "PS. I Hate You" by Simple Plan and then going by those four words, that user would then write an entry. The host does give the option for participants to use the song itself as inspiration but also reiterates that the main focus of the contest is for titles to inspire a story, rather than lyrics.
