Featured Contests

Let's have a look at this week's contests!

Dialogue Only Contest

There's no doubt that dialogue plays a massive part in a story. Where actions and narrative can fall short at times, dialogue then picks up the pieces and loops everything together. Writing accurate dialogue for individual characters can be tricky too, as it's unique to every one, but most users succeed. But can dialogue really form its own story? One that lacks all other forms of narrative?

dawn of light thinks so! Her Dialogue Only Contest gives it all away in the title. Whether it's a one-shot or a short story, participants are required to use just dialogue to comprise their entry. While dialogue tags are accepted, the vast majority of the entry will be talking, and if you think you're up to the challenge that this sets, then don't hesitate to enter this contest!

A Whole New World

Despite knowing that there is an entire solar system filled with other planets, most people only care about Earth, and that's usually in a roundabout way too. Although many dream of space travel, just a minuscule fraction of people will ever know what it's like to experience life outside our planet. For the rest of us, we can only use our imaginations to travel so far away, and with the help of science fiction film and literature, we can often do that.

In the A Whole New World writing contest, writers are asked to dream up a place vastly different to Earth and write about it. raja sahara is daring users to dream big and craft something entirely new. While she doesn't dictate where the new worlds should take place, she does offer a few suggestions – for example, the planet Saturn or even a black hole. Still, it's absolutely down to the writers to decide the setting of their story and use their creativity to think of an astronomical story sure to blow the readers (and host) away. Sky's the limit when it comes to this contest and big thinkers are urged to join. Remember, there's no rule or limits on what you can think up, so let your imagination run wild.
