Featured Contests

Let's have a look at this week's contests!

Write Me an Episode of My Favourite Show

Straying from bands and crafting unique worlds, pretty-thumb has started a contest that's all about television programmes. She asks all who are interested in her Write Me an Episode of My Favourite Show contest to look at the list provided of shows and pairings of characters within those shows and write her a one-shot that's to be viewed as an "episode" of that chosen show. There is a range of shows to choose from, with the likes of Criminal Minds and Game of Thrones listed, but participants are welcome to suggest a show or pairing that they'd like to write about and the host can either approve or reject the request.

With such a straight forward task at hand, if this appeals to you, there's really no need to delay in joining!

All Around the World

We are each born and raised in a confined space, with most of us staying in that country for our entire lives, despite there being an entire world out there that is full of wonders to explore. As writers, we often write about what we're familiar with, and that's no different when it comes to the geographical location of our stories. It's easier to write about a culture and landscape that is familiar, as it leaves less room for errors, but sometimes broadening our settings can be a good thing.

All Around the World is a contest by nautical. that asks that all participants write an entry that's set anywhere in the world, except for America. It can be set in the Amazon, in New Zealand, or even Tokyo - just so long as it's not America. For most users, this would involve opening up a brand new tab and looking up places that are beyond their home country, and if the cultures of the country chosen are to play a big part in the entry, then even more research needs to be done!

Not only does this contest encourage entries beyond the norm in terms of setting, but it also helps users improve their research abilities which is undoubtedly a huge part of being a writer.
