Yes. Yes it is. I hate long car rides, and that one is no exception. xD

They're both extremely insane, and SW is really, really prolific too. I'm really glad he is. ^^

I went from writing fantasy and listening to and playing metal to poetry and post rock, almost all digital. It was quite a change, and I'd be surprised if I was done changing.

Nice. Sounds like that would have taken a while. Luckily I don't write too much stuff down in the notepad program on my computer. Every time I re-install my operating system I always end up forgetting to back it up! Dx
All my poetry and important stuff is in another directory though, so it's all safe.

    Yeah. Same here.

    Thanks! ^^
The Album Leaf are incredibly underrated. I'm surprised your friend knows about them, I've only met one person who's even heard about them (prior to em telling them about them and at the concert, anyway).

Just how insane is her music collection? o.o

I just wanted to say that The Album Leaf were AMAZING live. I didn't think I could love the band any more and now I do. xD

Sea Wolf too was really good. I need to listen to more of their stuff. They also, sound a lot better live than on record.

And that had to be the best concert of my life. ^^

The weather's quite a bit different. I live a good 6 hour drive north of where I go to college. My dad thinks it might have something to do with the local mold, but I'm not entirely sure.

    Nice!

Yeah. It's insane. I downloaded all the albums I could find and tagged the songs and added them to my library. Including Merzbox, I have 70 albums by Merzbow. Buckethead still reigns supreme at 75 albums, but that's including every single thing he's ever done, excluding a few extremley rare albums from his first few bands that I have yet to find anywhere (they're not even mentioned on wikipedia). Still, only 70 albums, that's a little under a third of Merzbow's work. It's good enough for me. He's too insane for me to go all the way, and he's the only artist to do that to me. xD

Yeah. That's what I'm doing, and I'm getting there. My playing has really taken a backseat to writing though. It used to be the other way around when I was younger.

Same here! Hell, I've got notepads just full of albums I've been looking for. Ideas take a up the majority of them too. So many, so little time. And yet I have trouble getting ideas to start writing using these ideas.

    Yeah. It's too simple. xD
Good luck with that. Me? I can never stay happy with a plot for long unless it's flawless (which I have yet to make one that is).

    xD

Yeah. Same here, except I don't get it at my dorm, back at my actual house though, yeah, I hate my sinus problems.

Yeah. I ignored everything but it. And... U2 was actually one of the gateway bands that finally got me listening to other genres. Them and The Beatles were what re-broadened my musical tastes by my senior year of high school. Now I prefer obscure music. xD

Yeah. And Nice. I'll have to find that DVD when I'm not feeling so lazy. I'll do it. I'm almost done downloading every album I could find by Merzbow... which is quite a LOT, still just a small portion of his actual discography though.

That's a really good idea. I've tried it before but I haven't been able to come up with much. Probably the reason for that is my guitar playing is mostly constricted to normal rock and metal conventions... rhythm, melody, verse, chorus, solo... Maybe it's because I've been listening to too much post rock but I just feel like my guitar playing is too ordinary. xD
I also really want to learn the sitar, oh only if I could afford one.

That's what I'm doing now, but they just keep coming so I keep jotting them down!

Well it is difficult. I had a plot once, no, several times, but I kept taking it apart and re-making it because I didn't like certain parts of it, and other parts seemed to cliche. With my poems it's simple. I write it and it's done, with an actual story, I have to plan, think, and then I keep changing my mind and get lost. xD

They do. They really do. And no. Not at all. That's preposterous. xD

Gah. Hope your headache gets better. I get those occasionally too. They suck.
And I could say the same about myself. There was a time when I wouldn't listen to anything unless it was metal. I really have no idea what I was thinking back then either. If anything, it was a foundation that I shattered into tiny bits once I went off to college.

Nice. Watching a live DVD is nothing like actually being there though!

Haha. Thanks. I suppose they could be songs, if I really put time into adding more words and music to go with it. I'm far too lazy though. I'd rather just write than try to find something on my guitar to go with it. xD

Well another problem is the well of ideas that I have going now. I have so many thoughts floating about I have no clue where to begin!

Epic is easier said than done. I tried to write an epic, it didn't work out. I'm dealing with wanting to write something different. Something that can really transform and question those who read it. Good god it seems impossible. But I can dream of writing such a story, and I'll do it some day!

    No. No you can't. xD

Ah. Alright. Hopefully you'll like them better this time around then.

    I can't wait to see them live. I really can't. ^^

Really? Thanks. I dunno, I just don't think of it nearly as highly as any of the other poems I put up on mibba recently. I always hate my work though. That way there's always room for improvement! ^^

Yep. I'm facing a wall right now. Stupid wall. xD

Seriously. I mean, I haven't heard them yet, but I love epic music. ^^
And speaking of different bands, by chance have you heard of Thrice? I've been listening to them quite a bit latley, and I just noticed they have a new album out. They're... really epic, considering what genre they hail from. They're really an odd-ball, because I have yet to hear another band that I could ever call "Progressive Punk". xD

They're amazing in the studio, and unfortunatley I can't tell you how good they are live. I hope to see them live someday.

Haha. I would too, but then again, I probably would just by seeing them up on the stage, seeing as I haven't seen them live yet. The only times I've squealed during a concert were when I saw Shinedown, and when I saw In Flames. Both are amazing live acts.

Meh. I have no idea, I don't really like my latest one all that much. I don't know, I'd call myself a poet but none of my poems ever have any kind of rhyme or defined structure, it's all random artistic "rants" that go in my head that I end up writing down on paper.

I don't even have a plot, what I do have is ideas, and I keep getting more of them, but I'm failing to implement them into a coherent story.

Well there's nothing wrong with that. If they sound like Porcupine Tree I see no reason I wouldn't like them. xD

Ah. Yeah. That sucks. Hopefully if they open any time soon again their sound will be better.

Yes. And I'm in love with that whole album really, and I feel the same way about Anesthetize. The second section of it is so amazing! ^^

Thanks. I'm trying, although today all that I seem to be thinking about, with writing anyway, is Nine Inch Nails fueled poems. xD

Hmm... so they sound similar to Porcupine Tree then? Once I decide I have enough Merzbow I'll see for myself. xD

Yeah. That sucks that they had a sound problem. I've never heard them live yet so I wouldn't know how good they are compared to in the studio, but they're studio work is very good.

Did they announce who would be opening yet?

Hmm... that's a tough one. I honestly feel like I haven't listened to them enough to accurately answer that, because it's so hard to choose. I suppose I'd say "Fear of a Blank Planet" would be my favorite, because I've listened to it the most and it was the first album by them I ever heard. Also "My Ashes" is one of my favorite songs by them. Deadwing is amazing too though!

    Thanks. I'll try. xD

    Lucky guess, I suppose? xD
I think I'll have to check them out.

I like is collaborative work with Boris the most. With Boris' instruments alongside his noise, they're able to make a cacophony of sound with a melody, which makes it significantly easier to listen to. xD

    O.O
Kings X? Oh god damn it... They're one of my favorite prog bands, and next to Pinky Floyd they were one of the first prog bands I listened to, and I have yet to see them live. They are a really good band, and judging by what you said, yeah, they sound better than that on their albums. They're also exceptionally unknown. My high school english teacher was a big fan of theirs and he got me into them. I have yet to get my hands on quite a few of their albums though. They're hard to find, in record stores or online.

You should check out King's X sometime. I highly reccomend their albums "Manic Moonlight" and "Ogre Tones".

Awesome. I'll have to find that dvd.

Gah. Yeah. Same here. Good luck. ^^

The Pineapple Theif? I've actually never heard of them. Are they by chance a prog band?

I got several more of his stuff and I'm thinking to myself, I should stop before I loose the rest of my sanity. It's insane how polific he is. He is more insane than SW, and Buckethead too. I really like his music too, but it's so hard to listen to. It's so inspiring, but at the same time it tends to give me a headache if I listen for too long. Dx
So yeah. Breaks are good. xD

That is so awesome. The only concert I have planned is for The Album Leaf, and also Sea Wolf is playing at that show too. I just looked them up and I really like them too. Less than week till I get to see them. ^^

Hmm... I'll keep my out for it. Thanks. :]

I know how that is. I'm currently sitting on something myself. The best advice I can really give is to listen to something and get inspired and just write it, but I know how hard that is. xD

    Hmm. I didn't know that.
Which album are you listening to now, or rather, which album were you listening to when you sent that comment? xD

And I finished downloading Merzbox. Jesus christ it's insane. 50 discs is a lot of music. xD
And not only that, but out of the 50 discs, 20 of which are previously unlreleased albums. So I only have a small FRACTION of his music after getting Merzbox. I think I've finally found an artist that's more insane than I am.

I'm listening to Merzbox right now, and with this much noise, it's hard to digest, but I'm enjoying it in small portions.

    That's still awesome. ^^

And I'm glad I won't have to wait that long then.

I got your pm with your story btw. I think that's an awesome idea for one. Try and get to writing it! ^^

That's definitley a good question. I'm not really sure who's is bigger. Buckethead certainly has a bigger collection of solo work, though. And Lol. Yeah. I honestly have no idea. xD

I'd reccomend some of my favorite songs by him but there's just so much of them. "The Redeem Team", "Ghost", and "Lurker At The Threshold (Parts 1, 2, and 3)" are all really good.

Awesome! And oh, that's awesome. Did he like your drawing?

Yeah. Let the frustration commence. xD
And I'm really looking forward to their next tour then. ^^

    xD

I think Buckethead surpasses SW then. Buckethead's been releasing 2-4 albums a year, and that's just his solo work. If you include collaborations, then there's even more. SW has thet HUGE pdf just for his discogrpahy, but Buckethead as an entire website dedicated to his. They're both extremley prolific. And, even without his massive amount of music, Buckethead is still insane in the normal sense too. I dug up this on his website, this is as official of a biogrpahy as you can get: http://bucketheadland.com/story/index.html

He's ALWAYS got the bucket on his head. No one knows where he came from or why he always wears it. All that is certain is that his real name is Brian Carroll and there was a single picture taken of him without the bucket and mask on, when he was 18.

He is an amazing guitarist though. Try youtubing him sometime. His music is amazing, and spans a lot of genres. Some of his work is even pretty ambient.

Also, my first "real" concert I went to, was to see him. ^^

I don't listen much online either. I have friends who only listen using pandora and youtube... I just use my computer's hard drive. I occasionally go on Pandora though, when I run out of bands to download.

Gah. I should have gone to the SF show. I didn't know who Porcupine Tree was back then. I've only been listening to them for a few months. I'll catch 'em next tour.

Wow. I really wish I could see that. xD

Yeah. Regardless of how good both of the songs to, it really is difficult to listen to them in succession. xD

Buckethead is also insane, yeah, more so than SW I think, but not nearly as much as Merzbow. To only further prove that point, that thirteen disc box set was entirely new material, found nowhere else, and the majority of the tracks on it clock in at over ten minutes. Not only that, but he produced the whole thing himself, down to the cover art and track listing on each disc, which he wrote/drew himself individually. He's... quite insane. But that's part of the reason why I love his music as much as I do. He's also extremley prolific, having released 4 albums just in 2009, and I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he's collborated and made more bands than SW has. And then, of course... he always has that KFC bucket on his head. Most people I know think for a fact that he's really insane. xD

He's also one of the main reasons I picked up playing the guitar in the first place. Have you ever heard of him, by chance? :]

Grooveshark? It's better if you want to listen to a certain song, but because of that I have no use for it. Pandora, on the other hand, hosts the Music Genome Project. It's for discovering new bands, that's why it's there. You type in the name of a artist or song you like and you get in return a playlist of songs that share a similar sound. It's awesome, and it is one of the best ways to discover new music.

I'm in northern California, currently taking college at UC Santa Cruz, and I checked, there's no way I'd be able to head all the way down to Coachella. Hopefully the next time they tour they'll come a bit closer to where I am.

And if you don't mind, I'd like to ask you the same question. Where are you seeing them? I'm so friggen jealous that you'll get to see them twice. xD

I know what you mean. Going from something beautiful like that to pure noise can be quite disorienting. xD
It's a really sudden transition. The first time I heard it I had the volume all the way up and I jumped in my seat. I kinda like it though... the sudden noise. Although it is rather unpleasant with the volume so loud. xD

Well hopefully it'll be able to hold up. I've still got plenty of space left on it. This is by FAR the biggest box set I've ever seen. The closest I have to it would be Buckethead's "In Search of The...". And that's only 13 discs!

Awesome. That's another way to do it. I also found a lot of bands thanks to Pandora radio. That thing is really handy.

And that... is... awesome. I wish I could see them live, but I just checked the tourdates on their site. They aren't playing anywhere NEAR my area.

I have no idea what the character limit actually is, but it's there. It was a really massive comment I left that got cut though. And I don't mind. Send away. I'll send you mine as soon as I have something worthy of being written. xD

    Yeah. I'd imagine so. xD

Noise isn't something that is easy to listen to. I didn't like it that much when I first gave it a try, but I've learned to love it. It's like an aquired taste. Only with music.

    Yes. Yes I am. xD
I'm almost gotten half of it so far too. I'm on disc 23 out of 50.

Or be welcome to surprises. I've found a lot of the bands I listen to now due to so many circumstances. I discovered the Album Leaf by randomly clicking on download links on someone's blog. Knowing where to look helps too though, obviously.

I just got the Album Leaf's new album yesterday and I've been loving it btw. I'm so happy that he released a new album! And I get to see him live next week. I'm so exited. ^^

Ah. Yeah. You don't have to, especially if it's something that big. And I hate it when I click out by accident. It's so annoying. Dx
And I also know by experience that there is a character limit to the comments. I wouldn't want you to post something that massive and have half of it disappear.

With my story I'm not sure where to begin really. The idea I have is something along the lines of... completley ripping apart the line that defines man from machine. So, It's kind-of a sci fi, I just have ideas though. Nothing grounded enough to start writing.

Well... that certainly is impressive. xD
And yeah, I can see that. The only artists I can think of that can rival that level of productivity would be Buckethead and Merzbow. Possibly also Boris.

Before I started listening to Boris I had no idea "Noise" was a genre. Same with Sonic Youth and my discovery of "No Wave". There's just too many genres.

Yep. Most certainly so. Most people woudn't even think of Noise being music at all, let alone are able to listen to it. xD

It is. And to prove that I am insane, I am attempting to download it. I have the first few discs. It'll take me a week or two or three but I'll do it. And... it OBVIOUSLY was not meant to be listened to from beginning to end in one sitting. xD

Yes! I find that to be most true of Post Rock, Desert Rock, and the now Defunct No Wave genre. If you want to list bands I'm afraid I'd leave my own favorites out. xD
So much collaboration. So much originality. Not like pop music at all. Although, I beg to differ that there are even bands that dip into the popular music genre that like to mix things up.

I may be at a similar stage with my own story. So no worries. Ramble if you want, I don't mind.
